The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe Offers Drivers More Bang for Their Buck at the Pump

The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe Offers Drivers More Bang for Their Buck at the Pump

Elizabeth City, NC – The Tahoe is EPA-estimated at 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway (2WD) – a nearly 10-percent increase in highway mileage over the previous models and 7-percent greater city mileage.

The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe’s standard 5.3L V-8 engine, rated at 355 horsepower (265 kW) and 383 lb.-ft. of torque (519 Nm), features state-of-the-art technologies including direct injection, cylinder deactivation, continuously variable valve timing and an advanced combustion system, all designed to make the most of power, torque and efficiency across a broad range of operating conditions.

Improved engine mounts, electronic throttle control, adaptive exhaust systems, improved aerodynamics and other technologies help the engine operate in four-cylinder mode longer with Active Fuel Management, further increasing efficiency.

“If you thought that SUVs could not save on gas mileage, think again,” said Terrance Whidbee of Performance Chevrolet. “The all-new Tahoe offers large SUV customers the most fuel efficient option in Elizabeth City North Carolina.”

A Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed automatic transmission is paired with the new 5.3L engine and contributes to efficiency with reduced engine speed on the highway. It also features TapShift control, Tow/Haul mode and Auto Grade Braking.

Advanced combustion system

At the heart of the new EcoTec3 engine family is an advanced combustion system that maximizes the potential of the direct fuel injection system, cylinder deactivation, continuously variable valve timing and other technologies to ensure a strong balance between on-demand performance and real-world efficiency.

The ability to more precisely control combustion also enables the new engine to run with a higher compression ratio, one of the best ways to simultaneously increase power and efficiency.

This increased efficiency can now be maintained over a broader range of operating conditions. For example, when towing a trailer on a steep grade on a hot day, the advanced combustion system can reduce the need to trim back spark advance to control detonation, helping maintain efficiency with confident performance.

Direct injection and Active Fuel Management

The 5.3L’s direct fuel injection system precisely meters fuel directly into the cylinders, helping optimize combustion over a broad range of conditions. An all-new cylinder head design supports the fuel system and it’s complemented by a new, sculpted piston head developed to direct the injector’s fuel spray for better mixing and more complete combustion.

To further enhance combustion, the intake and exhaust valve positions have been switched from the previous Small Block engine design, and the spark plug angle has been revised to move the electrode now closer to the center of the chamber to support optimal combustion.

In certain light-load driving conditions, half of the 5.3L’s injectors quit spraying fuel, effectively turning the engine into a V-4 to help increase efficiency. This cylinder deactivation technology, also known as Active Fuel Management, is standard and uses oil pressure, controlled by the powertrain control module, to deactivate the lifters on selected cylinders, closes the valves for those cylinders, and seamlessly reactivates the cylinders when the driver demands greater power. The transition takes less than 20 milliseconds and is virtually imperceptible.

Additional features on the EcoTec3 5.3L include:

·        Weight-saving aluminum engine block

·        Efficiency-enhancing oiling system

·        Oil-jet piston cooling

·        PCV-integrated rocker covers

·        “Saw-cut” exhaust manifolds

·        Cooling system, humidity sensor and more

Small Block legacy

The first Small Block V-8 was introduced in 1955 – a 4.3L V-8 that was an option in the Suburban. It was rated at 145 horsepower and 238 lb.-ft. of torque. Sixty years later, the new EcoTec3 5.3L Small Block produces 245 percent more horsepower and 61 percent more torque from only 23 percent greater engine displacement.

The new 5.3L is built on a foundation of more than 100 million Small Block engines and four generations that came before it. Engines based on the architecture are typically smaller and lighter than competitors’ engines with overhead camshafts, and typically have lower friction – attributes that can enhance efficiency.

The Chevrolet Spark Is Remixed for City Living

file

Elizabeth City, NC – The Chevrolet Spark, a mini-car currently sold in 100 markets worldwide, will debut at Performance Chevrolet later this year with new features specifically targeted to appeal to the urban millennial market.

“Chevrolet is listening to what young drivers want in a car,” said Trey Colbert, Internet Director of Perry Auto Group. “We are already seeing interest in the Spark from customers who are looking for an urban car that is easy to drive, park and own.”

To tackle the challenges of urban driving environments, several Spark features are tailored to Elizabeth City drivers, including:

  • Giving the Spark the ability to conquer steep inclines and declines with Hill Start Assist and equipping the Spark with a sixth sense with Panic Brake Assist – both standard on Spark and new to the mini-car segment in North America.
    • Hill Start Assist aids drivers in cities known for hilly terrain – such as San Francisco – by holding the vehicle in place while the driver switches from the brake pedal to the gas.
    • Panic Brake Assist detects situations where emergency breaking is needed and automatically engages maximum braking force.
  • Squeezing Spark into the tightest of parking spaces with a length of only 144 inches and 63 inches wide, which is 37 inches shorter and 8 inches narrower than the Chevy Cruze.
  • Connecting Spark owners to their friends, music, videos and photos with a radio that features a seven-inch diagonal color touch screen equipped with the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system, which provides users with access to Pandora and Stitcher, Bluetooth and navigation. MyLink also makes it possible to connect a smartphone or other USB device to play movies, display pictures and download contacts for hands-free calling, allowing for a full in-vehicle media experience.
  • Packing extra horsepower under the hood with modifications to the engine displacement and enhancements to the ride and handling, giving the Spark more power and better handling at higher speeds.
  • Hooking up the Spark with 15-inch wheels, making it the only vehicle in the segment to come standard with alloy wheels and increasing its performance and style street cred.
  • Giving the Spark a facelift with a deeper grille and restyled fog lamps for a sportier, more aggressive style.

More Content, Value for Base Malibu; Lower Price for LTZ

Elizabeth City, NC – When the all-new 2013 Chevrolet Malibu midsize sedan goes on sale at Performance Chevrolet in Elizabeth City  this summer with an all-new 2.5L Ecotec engine and 10 standard air bags, it will carry a suggested retail price of $23,150, including a $760 destination charge.

The midsize segment’s longest-running nameplate, the 2013 Malibu is available in LS, Eco, LT and LTZ models. Malibu Eco went on sale earlier this year to Elizabeth City drivers, to be followed by the LS, LT and LTZ models. An all-new turbocharged Malibu LTZ will be available this fall – the first-ever turbocharged Malibu.

“Chevrolet made the new Malibu even better with more room inside, a premium interior and new Chevrolet MyLink infotainment technology,” said Trey Colbert, Internet Director of Perry Auto Group. “It’s also the quietest Chevrolet ever built with the ride and handling characteristics of a premium sports sedan.”

The base prices for all Malibu models – with a $760 destination charge – are:

  • LS (1LS trim): $23,150
  • LT (1LT trim): $24,765
  • LT (2LT trim): $26,000
  • Eco (1SA trim): $26,095
  • Eco (2SA trim): $27,705
  • LT (3LT trim with turbo): $27,710
  • LTZ (1LZ trim): $28,590
  • LTZ (2LZ trim with turbo): $30,925

The starting price represents a modest increase over the 2012 Malibu, at $22,870, but includes more content, features, safety equipment and technology. The base prices are lower for the uplevel LTZ models, which include all-new features such as Chevrolet MyLink with a seven-inch color-touch LCD screen, color LCD driver information center and dual-zone automatic climate controls.

The 2012 Malibu was the highest-performing midsize car in the 2012 J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality StudySM   announced in June.

All 2013 Malibu models deliver more cabin space, a quieter driving experience and greater performance from the new Ecotec 2.5L engine. It is standard in LS, LT and LTZ models (an Ecotec 2.4L eAssist is standard in Malibu Eco) and rated at 197 horsepower (147 kW) – nearly 17 percent more than the previous model. Its fuel economy will be competitive for the segment, with highway mileage expected to approach the mid-30s.

The 2013 Malibu lineup also offers greater safety, with 10 standard air bags, as well as an available rearview camera system, Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning. It is also the first 2013 midsize car to earn double honors for safety, including a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and a 2012 Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety.

All models are covered by a transferrable five-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, as well as a three-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty.

Malibu Eco

The Malibu Eco is Chevrolet’s most fuel-efficient Malibu ever. It is the first Chevrolet to feature General Motors’ eAssist battery electric/gas propulsion system, which uses a state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery and an electric motor-generator to enable regenerative braking, electric assist and start-stop functionality. That helps deliver an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in city driving and 37 mpg on the highway.

All-new turbocharged powertrain

Malibu’s first-ever turbocharged powertrain is offered on LT and LTZ. The Ecotec 2.0L turbo is SAE-certified at 259 horsepower (193 kW) and 260 lb.-ft. of torque (353 Nm). Its peak torque is sustained from 1,700 to 5,500 rpm – a broad range that provides an immediate feeling of power in all driving conditions and helps produce 0-60 performance in 6.3 seconds.

The 2013 Malibu will be sold in nearly 100 countries on six continents and will serve as a flagship Chevrolet midsize in many parts of the world. The Malibu is built in multiple locations including the United States, China and Korea. In North America, Malibu is built at the Fairfax, Kan. and Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plants.

Chevrolet Malibu Eco Achieves Double Safety Honors

file

Elizabeth City, NC – The 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco, available at Performance Chevrolet, is the first and only all-new 2013 midsize car available to Elizabeth City drivers to receive double honors for safety including a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and a 2012 Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Both are the highest ratings possible.

The IIHS tests vehicles to determine how well they protect occupants in front and side crash tests, in rollovers via a roof strength test, and simulated rear impacts to evaluate seat and head restraints for protection against neck injuries. The Malibu Eco achieved a “good” score in all four types of tests performed and has standard electronic stability control, which the IIHS requires for Top Safety Pick designation.

In achieving the 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score, the Malibu Eco was tested under NHTSA’s revised New Car Assessment Program.  The overall score is based on frontal and side crash tests in addition to evaluation for rollover resistance. Under the rating system, performances in three test segments are combined mathematically into an “Overall Vehicle Score.”

“With the Malibu Eco, Chevrolet has earned seven 2012 TOP SAFETY PICK awards,” said IIHS President Adrian Lund.  “The IIHS and NHTSA results demonstrate GM’s commitment to state-of-the-art crash protection.”

Under this methodology, the Chevy Malibu Eco achieved an Overall Vehicle Score of five stars – the highest rating possible – even though some individual ratings, such as rollover, resulted in four stars.

The all-new 2013 Malibu will be sold in nearly 100 markets on six continents. It was designed and engineered to achieve top safety ratings and to meet pedestrian protection standards where such requirements exist. Last November, General Motors announced that the Malibu also earned a top five-star rating by the European New Car Assessment Program, known as Euro NCAP.

GM designs its new products to perform well in the metrics IIHS and NHTSA use to communicate crash worthiness to customers. There are 11 GM 2012 models with a 5-Star Overall Vehicle NCAP score and the Malibu Eco is among the first 2013 GM models to receive this rating. There are now 15 GM vehicles that have an IIHS 2012 Top Safety Pick designation.

“Our customers are interested in the Malibu Eco not only for its fuel economy, but also for its safety features,” said Jimmie Ritter of Performance Chevrolet. “This designation by NHTSA and IIHS confirms that the Malibu Eco delivers top safety performance.”

The all-new Malibu is designed and engineered to help Elizabeth City drivers avoid crashes, while protecting occupants if a crash occurs. Standard safety features include:

  • A body structure made up of 65 percent high strength and ultra-high strength steels
  • Driver and front passenger dual-stage frontal air bags, seat-mounted side air bags and knee air bags and head curtain side air bags with rollover protection that cover front and outboard rear-seating rows
  • Rollover sensors which can activate the head curtain side air bags if sensors determine an imminent rollover. In a rollover, the air bags stay inflated longer to provide increased occupant protection
  • StabiliTrak electronic stability control helps the driver maintain control by comparing the path being steered by the driver with the actual response and, when necessary, applying the brakes or adjusting the throttle or a combination of both
  • Four-channel disc brakes with ABS, full-function traction control and panic brake assist that activates when an emergency braking maneuver is detected. The system automatically develops additional brake pressure to more quickly engage ABS
  • Front safety belt pretensioners to reduce forward movement and load-limiting retractors to help manage forces during a collision
  • OnStar, which features the Automatic Crash Response System that uses GPS and cellular phone technology to automatically call for help in a crash that deploys the air bags.

The Malibu Eco is the sixth Chevy model within the 2012 model year to achieve a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score for safety. The others include the Camaro Coupe, Sonic, Cruze, Volt and Traverse. The 2012 Malibu is also is a Top Safety Pick.

The Malibu Eco with fuel-saving eAssist technology is Chevrolet’s most fuel-efficient midsize car ever. It is on sale now in the United States with a base price including destination of $25,995, less than competitor full hybrid vehicles. Chevrolet is scheduled to roll out an all-new fuel-efficient 2.5L Ecotec engine on the full Malibu lineup this summer. A new turbo model will be available this fall.

Smart Driving Could Save $100 a Month at the Pump

Elizabeth City, NC – With the official start of the summer driving season fast approaching, Performance Chevrolet is reminding Elizabeth City residents of some easy ways to maintain their vehicles and drive smarter to help improve fuel economy and save money at the pump.

To demonstrate 10 common mistakes drivers make that affect their fuel economy, Chevrolet and Performance Chevrolet recently drove two identical Chevrolet Cruze LTs, which the EPA estimates get 24 mpg city, and 36 mpg highway. For the route, they drove both cars for 20 minutes, including city and highway driving, as well as a coffee stop.

file

The results show that sweating the small stuff could save drivers as much as $100 a month in fuel costs. Driver A averaged 37 miles per gallon using efficient driving habits in a properly maintained Cruze. Driving inefficiently and ignoring common maintenance, Driver B managed only 21 miles per gallon. The difference means Driver B would get 250 fewer miles per tank of gas, while Driver A would save $100 a month – or $1,200 a year – assuming 15,000 miles and $4 a gallon for gas:

Driver A 37 mpg 575 mi per tank $1,621per year
Driver B 21 mpg 325 mi per tank $2,857 per year
Savings 40 percent 250 mi per tank $1,236 per year

“Our customers are always looking for ways that they can improve their fuel economy, and the first thing we tell them is that a well-maintained car and efficient driving habits can help you get up to 25 percent more miles per gallon,” said Trey Colbert of Perry Auto Group. “Customers are always shocked to find out that bad driving habits and a poorly maintained car can mean fuel economy 50 percent below their vehicle’s EPA-estimated average.”

Five Driving Tips to Save at the Pump

Here are five things Driver A did to drive more efficiently in her Cruze:

  1. Get out of the drive-through lane. “While (Driver B) waited in the drive-through with her car running, I shut off the engine and went inside for my morning coffee. Idling for 15 minutes burns through an average of a quarter of a gallon – adding another $1 to the cost of your latte.”
  2. Take it easy. “In the city, I accelerated smoothly while (Driver B) demonstrated one of the most common mistakes we see on the road, jumping on the gas at every light, only to hit the brakes as she caught up with the traffic ahead. Such aggressive driving isn’t going to get you home any faster, while driving smoothly can improve your mileage by 20 percent.”
  3. Driving 70, not 80. “On the highway, I drove 70, compared to (Driver B’s) 80. Again, a 10-mph difference likely won’t add much time to your daily commute, but it will save you up to four miles per gallon on the highway.”
  4. Use cruise control. “I tried to maintain a constant speed during our drive, while (Driver B’s) fluctuated with traffic. Try using cruise control when possible, and maintaining a constant speed over time, which is much more efficient than speeding up and slowing down over and over again.”
  5. Roll up the windows. “One of the most common questions we get is ‘is it better to drive with the A/C on, or off?’ At slower speeds, turning off the air conditioning can save you a little, but I always roll up the windows on the highway. (Driver B) was driving with her windows down, and the increased air pressure acted like a parachute trying to slow her down – consuming much more energy than air conditioning ever will.”

Five Vehicle Mistakes That Hurt MPG:

Here are things that contributed to Driver B’s poor fuel economy:

  1. Low tire pressure. “All four tires on my car were five pounds under their recommended air pressure. That’s not enough to change how the Cruze drives, but it does make the engine work much harder to turn the wheels. Check your tires at least once a month, as a tire that is 10 pounds under pressure can cut your fuel efficiency by more than 3 percent.”
  2. Using roof ornaments. “To show support for my favorite sports team, I put up window flags on my Cruze for every home game. But when the team is on the road, the flags will come down. At highway speeds, up to a third of your fuel is used to overcome wind resistance, so even small changes to your vehicle’s aerodynamics will have a big impact on fuel economy. “
  3. Carrying extra junk in the trunk. “I had six bags of water-softener salt I bought on sale at the hardware store in the trunk. But according to EPA estimates, every 100 pounds of weight can reduce fuel economy by 2 percent. While I saved at the checkout, that 240 pounds of salt added almost 5 percent to my fuel costs for the trip.”
  4. Ignoring the “check engine” light. “I called OnStar to run a remote diagnostics check on my Cruze, because the check engine light was on. Turns out the light was on because the gas cap was loose. More serious engine problems can cut your fuel economy by up to 40 percent.”
  5. Not bundling errands. “An engine at operating temperature is up to 50 percent more efficient than a cold engine. So when possible, it’s much better to run five errands in an afternoon than running one errand every day of the week.

Regular Vehicle Maintenance Tips That Can Save Money in the Long-run:

  1. Make your tires last. Properly inflated tires will improve your fuel economy, and they will last longer. Also rotate tires at manufacturer-recommended intervals.
  2. Use the recommended grade of motor oil. Motor oil that says “Energy Conserving” on the performance symbol of the American Petroleum Institute contains friction-reducing additives that can improve fuel economy.
  3. Check your owner’s manual for the most effective octane level for your car. For most cars, the recommended gasoline is regular octane. In most cases, using a higher-than-recommended octane gas offers no benefit – and costs more.
  4. Batteries can make or break you. Check battery life, replace or charge your current battery and make sure battery cables are free of corrosion. Many breakdowns occur because batteries aren’t delivering full cranking power.
  5. Get regular engine tune-ups and car maintenance checks. According to the EPA, tune-ups improve performance as well as gas mileage. Check your owner’s manual for recommended maintenance schedules and follow them. This will avoid fuel economy problems due to worn spark plugs, dragging brakes, low transmission fluid, or the transmission failing to go into high gear.
  6. Be skeptical about any gizmo that promises to improve your gas mileage. The EPA has tested supposed gas-saving devices – including “mixture enhancers” and fuel line magnets – and found that very few provided any fuel economy benefits. The devices that did work provided only a slight improvement in gas mileage. In fact, some products may damage your car’s engine or cause a substantial increase in exhaust emissions. For a full list of tested products, visit www.epa.gov/otaq/consumer/reports.htm.

Introducing the All New 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco

Chevrolet continued its global rollout of the all-new 2013 Malibu midsize sedan with its most fuel-efficient Malibu ever – the Malibu Eco. The Malibu Eco is the first model of the all-new 2013 Malibu lineup to reach dealer showrooms in North America, bringing with it:

• A sporty exterior shaped to save fuel.
• An all-new interior with more room, comfort and premium materials.
• Sound-reducing and sound-absorbing components to make it the quietest Chevrolet in history.
• All-new Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system that enhances customer connectivity.
• All-new ride-and-handling package.
• Engineering to meet top safety results around the world.

The heart of the Malibu Eco is its segment-exclusive, fuel-saving eAssist™ technology, which provides GM-estimated 25 mpg city and 37 mpg highway fuel economy.  EAssist™ technology combines start-stop technology with regenerative braking and a lightweight lithium-ion battery to provide an electric boost in certain conditions, improving fuel economy by 12 percent over today’s four-cylinder engine. The Malibu Eco delivers better fuel economy than any non-hybrid midsize sedan currently available. An all-new Ecotec 2.5L engine debuts in the Malibu later this summer, followed by an all-new Ecotec 2.0L turbo engine. The new Malibu Eco is priced less than a full hybrid vehicle with a suggested retail price of $25,995, including a $760 destination charge. The 2013 Malibu is Chevrolet’s first global midsize sedan and will be sold in nearly 100 countries on six continents.

Meet the all New 2013 Chevrolet Spark

The 2013 Chevrolet Spark:

Arriving fashionably on time on the American scene in the summer of 2012. This stylish little guy’s first-gen has been bobbing and weaving through European streets for a year now. Designed to fit your city and your life, the compact Spark slides easily into those tight parking spots that other cars don’t dare dream about. No more driving in three-block circles for hours ruing the moment you decided not to take the bus. Much more time spent exploring your city.

Spark is the city driving solution. Bringing the same amount of small to the table as those other guys at a price that lets you keep your apartment. Affordability meets swagger. Spark keeps your personal style in mind with a plethora of available colors ranging from fun to funky. This city car makes parallel parking a nonissue, lets you keep your flair and turns the city into an adventure. So get lost and see what you can find.

The Stuff:

Affordable doesn’t mean boring. Spark may have a starting price lower than a limbo stick after five rounds, that does not mean it shouldn’t come with all the tech and gadgets that make buying a new ride so euphoric. Of course you expect alloy wheels, power windows and air conditioning. And you’ll get it, standard on any model. But what about some stuff you can brag about? Well, Spark 1LT and 2LT were designed to include all that fun stuff. We’re talking Bluetooth® for compatible devices3, we’re talking unlocking with the OnStar® RemoteLink™ app4, we’re talking plugging your portable device into the USB port5 and rocking out through the speakers. That’s if you don’t already have your 7-inch diagonal touch-screen programmed to blast tunes from the three-month trial of SiriusXM Satellite Radio6.

Still want more? Of course you do, it’s why we love you. The Spark 2LT includes: an enhanced exterior appearance with front and rear sport fascias, a unique front upper and lower grille, roof rails, chrome liftgate handle, chrome exhaust outlet and a tissue to wipe away the drool.

The Stares:

Life is too short and too long not to have fun. Colors that match your mood or your shoes.Let’s get to the good stuff. Of course cost and handling make the top of the list but we all know that’s not what you’ll be thinking about when you see your reflection coasting past one of those glass buildings downtown. No, the only thing that matters then is style. Along with its funky exterior design, Spark is available with unique alloy wheels, stylish foglamps and in eight playful colors. There are the standard hues like Silver Ice Metallic, Denim, Salsa and Summit White. But for those people who are anything but standard, Spark can be styled in more adventurous shades like Lemonade, Techno Pink and Jalapeño, all with interior accents to match. You define you. So you define Spark.

Exterior:

Playing it safe

Spark is down to ride out and find adventure but never forgets that the safety of you and your friends is important. It is a Chevrolet, after all. That’s why every Spark comes with ten standard air bags7, Hill Start Assist and OnStar8 standard for six months, no matter the model.

Once again we know you want more. How do we know that? Because we wanted more too -much more- and we put it all in there. Safety features like the StabiliTrak Stability Control System with Brake Assist to help out when the roads aren’t kind, driver and front passenger Dual Safety Belt Pretensioners to keep you in place, and Traction Control to help you get a grip…on the road. We did all this for you because if you have read this far down the page that makes us besties, FFFs (Facebook friends forever) and Spark loves its friends.
